Universal Temple of the Arts
UTA All Stars is a group of talented musicians who work closely with the Universal Temple of the Arts (UTA). This organization was founded in 1967 by artist/teacher/philosopher Maurice Phillips and a group of young artists. Its mission: to quicken the creative spirit in the individual and community and foster brotherly love through the arts. UTA continues to expose the Staten Island community to its home-grown creativity through its Staten Island Jazz Festival, celebrating 31 years of performances. The UTA All Stars bring this powerful history of the pursuit of excellence to Court Yard Fridays. The UTA All Stars are: Darrell Smith: drums/music director, Rudi Mwongozi: keyboards, Sylvester "Sly" Scott: alto sax, Gandharva Earl Sauls: bass, Ray Scro: baritone sax.
