Staten Island native, retired NYC Firefighter, and community activist Kevin WashingtonPhiladelphia Jazz Project director Homer Jackson and graphic designer Lynn Washington created Court Yard Fridays to activate this underused central civic space in St. George as a regular gathering place for the Staten Island community and visitors.

Court Yard Fridays is a pilot project of the Future Culture initiative launched by Staten Island Arts and the Design Trust for Public Space to foster community connections and shape a vision for culture on the North Shore of Staten Island.

“Located directly across the street from the Staten Island Ferry, the Richmond County Courthouse – a beautiful example of neo-classical, 20th century architecture – will come to life at our four multicultural concerts featuring international music stars and local talent. We invite commuters, workers, neighbors, and visitors to join us,

Kevin Washington, organizer of Court Yard Fridays.

Court Yard Fridays is made possible through the generous support of the New York City Department of Small Business Services and Neighborhood 360, the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, and the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
